Agricultural Renaissance: Mrs Ajola Jallow

Founder of GrowHer Africa Ltd.

Mrs. Ajola Jallow, who possesses “the first large-scale privately 100% Female owned agricultural business in The Gambia”, is strongly convinced that “agriculture is the sole agent to change life in Africa”. When she was a child, she already aspired to become a farmer, but she couldn’t find any icon or motivation to follow her dream. For that reason, she opted for studying economics at university, and then she started her career working in several banks.

She holds a degree in Economics with a professional background on both Wall Street Firms & International Development Organizations such as the World Bank  in Washington D.C. & The United Nations Population Fund Headquarters in New York City.

By the way, she felt that this was not her path, so she decided to follow her real passion. In 2015, she launched “GrowHer Africa”, an agribusiness social enterprise geared to producing professional – grade female farmers. For this young entrepreneur, it is time to “change the script for agriculture”. This is why, Mrs. Jallow suggests that the question should not be “how to empower women in agriculture” but rather “how business women in agribusiness can be promoted”. She is known as a restless optimist  who prefers to be considered as a “Business woman in agribusiness instead of women in agriculture”.
